Recently I had the pleasure of attending Cabana Brasilian Barbeque in Trinity Leeds to sample their new cocktail menu. The new menu, developed by mixologist Dariusz Pawlowski features 19 bright and colourful Brasilian-inspired drinks and is inspired by the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympics! Having previously eaten at Cabana (see our previous FoodGoblin North review by Erin) I knew what to expect from the vibrant décor and lively atmosphere but was excited to sample the new cocktails.
First we tried one of the new Caipirinha’s, which are all twists on the original cachaça (all of Cabana’s Caipirinha’s are mixed using Velho Barreiro), lime and sugar recipe. The Caipirinha mixed with superfoods Blueberry and Acai was a delicious and invigorating sip.
Next we sampled the Ipanema Iced Tea of Cachaca, fresh passion fruit, ginger beer and grenadine. As a fan of ginger beer this went down a treat and it had a punchy, refreshing taste to it. More please….
We then moved onto another new Caipirinha, the Spicy Malagueta Kick, made using Cabana’s spicy house sauce (usually reserved for their chicken or prawns dishes!!), strawberries and limes. This cocktail was my favourite of them all – luscious with fruity flavour, followed by a tantalising spicy hit. Super unusual, super yummy.
We followed this up with the new delicious creamy Batida’s…boozy smoothies made with cachaça and condensed milk. We tried both the Mango and Passionfruit flavours and loved both although I must say the passionfruit had more of a zing to it.
Finally we tried the new frozen strawberry caipirinha’s; essentially alcoholic slush puppies, which are the first of their kind in the UK although not my favourite of the evening.

Throughout the evening we also sampled some of the bar snacks including plaintain crisps, chilli coconut flakes, malagueta pork scratchings, toasted corn nuts and Guaca- Molho with yellow corn chips. Good stuff and perfect to nibble on over drinks….copious drinks. With Rio 2016 only a year away, Cabana set out to bring a real taste of Brasil to Leeds. I think they’ve hit the nail on the head with this exciting new menu – highly, highly recommended. Give it a try!
