To me, there can be no more pleasure to be had on a Saturday than that involved in pottering around a food market, appetite in hand and hangover in check. And Clapham Common’s leafy borough has an absolute corker of one: Venn Street Market, just off Clapham High Street, Saturday’s 10am-4pm.
Not too big, not too small, it hosts about 25 food stalls serving a whole host of consistently ravishing things, from freshly baked empanadas, free range meats, mulled wine, Portugese baked goods and fresh fish, glistening and sweet. Pop in for a snack, or to get weekly groceries with a touch more personal than Tesco’s. I adore it.
